Children Who Do Not Live in Childhood: This article describes the experience and prac- tice of an educational relationship in a hospital environment, specifically the children’s school at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona, and explains in considerable detail the keys to the teacher-student-family relation- ship at a time when a child’s health – and so- metimes life – is at stake. What does a hospital teacher experience, what does she feel and how does she evaluate the process of accom- panying a child who is living with illness and pain? Successful engagement here calls for the harmonious integration of abstraction and emotion in the everyday tasks of professional practice, endowing all of the activities with both a human sense and a pedagogical sense.
